Thomas Gold

2011 was a landmark year for Thomas Gold – you couldn’t step inside the world’s finest clubs this year without hearing a Thomas Gold original track, collaboration or remix blasting from the speakers at some point during the evening. As a DJ, quite simply, Thomas Gold is known for having amongst the most impeccable programming and mixing skills in the business.

When asked by DJ Mag to name their upcoming DJ/producer of 2011, Swedish House Mafia, Axwell, Sander van Doorn, Cosmic Gate (and more) had one name in common – Thomas Gold. As a producer, Thomas Gold focuses on quality over quantity. 2010’s smashes “AGORa” [Size], “Work That” / “Kananga” [Toolroom], “The Button” [Toolroom], ”Marsch Marsch” [Toolroom], “Areena” (w/ David Tort and David Gausa), Thomas Gold & Alex Kenji “What´s Up” [Spinnin’] and Fatboy Slim vs Thomas Gold “Star69” [Skint], set the stage for a massive 2011. Thomas Gold’s collaboration with Dirty South, “Alive (feat. Kate Elsworth),” was named essential new tune by BBC Radio 1 on July 8, shot to number two on the Beatport charts and became one of the summer’s true festival anthems. Thomas returned in October with a massive rework of “Marsch Marsch” for inclusion on the 2011 Toolroom Amsterdam Dance Event Compilation.

In 2009 Thomas remixed Delerium’s classic “Silence” and it was named “Best Progressive House Track Of 2009” by Beatport. Then, in 2010, Thomas Gold remixed Moguai “We Want Your Soul” for Size Records and it was described by Tiësto as a “classic.” These proved to be just the tip of the iceberg as his remixing reached another level in 2011. In January, Axtone released “Hard Rock Sofa & St Brothers ‘Blow Up’ (Thomas Gold vs Axwell Remix)” which promptly rocketed up to number three on the Beatport charts. In March, Toolroom released Jay C & Felix Baumgartner “Souk (Thomas Gold Remix);” In May, Interscope released Lady GaGa “Judas (Thomas Gold Remix);” and on July 4th XL Recordings dropped Adele “Set Fire To The Rain (Thomas Gold Remix).” Thomas’ remix of “Set Fire To The Rain” which now has over 10 million plays on YouTube. Thomas rounded out his 2011 remix work with Sander van Doorn ‘Reach Out’ (Thomas Gold Remix) for Doorn Records

As a DJ, Thomas Gold played all the right places in 2011. The impressive list includes coveted spots on Swedish House Mafia’s legendary Masquerade Motel Miami, EDC Las Vegas @ Swedish House Mafia (main) stage, Size Matters @ Governor’s Island, NYC, Tomorrowland main stage, Pacha Ibiza alongside Swedish House Mafia, Creamfields UK main stage and SHM stage, Escape From Wonderland Halloween Size Matters Stage, Sankeys Club, Manchester, Space Miami (headline), Pacha NYC (headline) and Ministry Of Sound (headline), among others.

Things to look out for from Thomas Gold in 2012 include Henrik B “Leave A Light On (Thomas Gold Remix)” [out in winter/early spring on Axtone]; Dirty South & Thomas Gold “Eyes Wide Open” [late January 2012 on Phazing], and finally, the much anticipated release of Thomas Gold “Sing2Me” [spring 2012 on Axtone]. “Sing2Me” was originally premiered by Swedish House Mafia during their September 16 takeover of BBC Radio 1, so this is a long time coming!

Bingo Players

It’s rush hour for Bingo Players!

After jumpstarting 2011 with the fresh and original tracks: ‘LAME BRAINED,’ ‘GET ON THE MOVE’ and the Summer Top 10 hit ‘CRY (JUST A LITTLE)’ there’s no doubt that this year has been the year of Bingo Players. Bingo Players joined creative forces via their brand new label ‘Hysteria’ and it resulted in their first landmark hit: ‘CRY (JUST A LITTLE’). The track ruled the airwaves, the net, the clubs, the festivals and mainstream Top 40 charts in a large number of countries.

When meeting in late 2006, audio specialist Paul Bäumer and graphic designer Maarten Hoogstraten had no idea that their musical interests would translate into a bond that would secure the fast paced success lying ahead. In just 3 years, a string of releases, original tracks and remixes, successfully found their way onto the dancefloor and across a global audience.

Adopted by labels such as: Strictly Rhythm, Secure Recordings, Spinnin’ Records and Sneakerz MUZIK, Bingo Players spoiled music lovers with their first hits: ‘TOUCH ME’ (vs. Chocolate Puma), ‘CHOP’ and ‘DISCO ELECTRIQUE’, all claiming number 1 positions in the Beatport Chart. A chain reaction followed and soon artists like: Kristine W., Joachim Garraud, Ferry Corsten, Sander van Doorn, Kid Cudi vs Crookers and Martin Solveig were amongst the few who decided to have their music remixed by Bingo Players. The Bingo Players hit release ‘DEVOTION’ topped off the year with another number one spot in the Beatport Chart. This then led the path ahead for Bingo Players, a full schedule of live performances and music production had now firmly been set.

By the time Paul and Maarten hit 2010, a local & international audience had lined up to watch Bingo Players on stage, packing out clubs everywhere. Touring around the globe and playing at some of the hottest gigs around, including: Creamfields UK & Australia, Nocturnal Festival LA, Dance Valley, Mysteryland Holland and Tomorrowland Belgium, all witnessed the same thing: hands up, party rocking DJs firing up the crowd.

Fedde Le Grand, Green Velvet and David Guetta embraced the Bingo Players sound and received ‘the BP treatment’ for their remixes, while many a DJ had already included Paul and Maarten’s records and promo’s to their sets, or hammered the infamous ‘TOM’S DINER’ through the speakers. Yet another Beatport Number 1 for the past ‘up and comers’ now firmly placed as main stayers. At the end of the year a new Bingo Players brainchild was born and enabled them to release tracks under a new flag: their label ‘Hysteria’. It would also allow them to offer a platform to newly discovered talent, which had been one of their other ambitions.

In 2011, Bingo Players still find themselves climbing an even higher ladder, rapidly. ‘Hysteria’ launched new tracks and happily surprised with the Bingo Players vs. Nicky Romero collaboration ‘SLICED’. Next, a killer remix for Pitbull’s global No. 1 smash hit ‘GIVE ME EVERYTHING’ Ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer, turned out to be the most downloaded version in several territories and signaled what lay ahead: great new music! Bingo Players found themselves celebrating their first top 10 position in mainstream Top 40 charts, just before the summer took off. ‘CRY (JUST A LITTLE)’, put a smile on faces worldwide and has been officially released in 20 countries with the U.S just starting in the last quarter. Live stages are calling upon the guys continuously, as they had a full schedule entertaining crowds at: Audiotistic, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, Dirty Dutch Mysteryland, Dayglow Miami, Ministry Of Sound London and Versuz Tomorrowland to name but a few.

With an insatiable appetite for everything that’s music, Bingo Players seem unstoppable and have a new series of tracks lined up. Remixes for Flo Rida and Cobra Starship have just left the studio; their own ‘Rattle’ is a top 10 smash and received early support from the likes of: Laidback Luke, David Guetta and Kaskade. Having prepared sets to play in: Brasil, Russia, the U.S, Italy, the UK, Germany and a new residency in Vegas confirmed, Bingo Players have officially gotten out of the car and have taken a high speed train. Next stop: 2012!

Ken Loi

Although he was born in Australia, upcoming producer/DJ, Ken Loi has called San Francisco, California his home since the early 80s. At the young age of 6, Ken explored his musical talent by engaging in piano lessons and participated in various United States Open Music Competitions until the end of his high school career. He went on to attend the University of California, Davis, and graduated with a degree in Biology. However, his true passion always remained with music. So regardless of his classically trained background, Ken felt compelled to transition into the Euro dance and eventually the trance scene after receiving inspiration from artists such as Tiësto, M.I.K.E. / Push, Rank 1, Airbase, Markus Schulz, and Sander van Doorn. Ken currently works as an EMT by day, but as night falls, he diligently sets the tone for party goers as a ground-breaking producer/DJ.

From 2005 to 2008, Ken produced and released his own tracks on record labels, such as Perfecto Digital and Unearthed Records, while performing at local gigs under his former alias as ‘Elucidate’. However, Ken Loi’s journey towards recognition truly started in 2009 when he started producing under his own name. His achievements included opening for Ferry Corsten’s “Twice in a Blue Moon: World Tour”, winning First Place for Tiësto’s “Knock You Out” Beatportal contest, and debuting on countless radio shows around the world, including Tiësto’s Club Life, Armin van Buuren’s ASOT, Markus Schulz’s GDJB, Rank1’s Radio Rush, and tyDi’s Global Soundsystem. Acquiring more styles as his talent grew, Ken became more versatile in the electronic dance music scene. But in order to master his sound, Ken took time off of performing in 2010 and has undoubtedly returned to the EDM family as a force not to be reckoned with.

The year 2011 has been most notable for this upcoming artist. Ken Loi has been well known for his remixes for artists such as Tiësto, Kaskade, Markus Schulz, Martin Solveig, Marcel Woods, and Wynter Gordon. His recent signings include Dim Mak, High Contrast Recordings & Big Beat/Atlantic Records. However, after popular demand, Ken released his bootleg of The Ting Ting’s “Hands”, which went viral with the support of Tiësto playing it on tour at worldwide events, such as Stereosonic Festival Australia, Ultra Music Festival, Energy 2011, etc. With Tiësto giving Ken’s bootleg of “Hands” an outstanding reputation, producers such as Kaskade, Steve Aoki, and Wolfgang Gartner started spinning it as well. In the meanwhile, Ken Loi’s remix of Martin Solveig’s “Hello,” released on Mixture, caught the attention of listeners around the world. But it is undoubtedly recognized that the release of Ken Loi’s remix of Kaskade & Tiësto’s “Only You” was the turning point of his career as it broke into the Beatport Top 100 Chart. It wasn’t long until Tiësto, the DJ legend himself, invited Ken Loi to play an opening set for the ‘Tiësto: In Concert’ residency in Las Vegas located at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. His energetic performance in Las Vegas impressed Tiësto and his team that they personally invited Ken back for several more opening sets, which included the history making final stop of the Club Life: College Invasion Tour at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles and the back-to-back shows at San Francisco’s Ruby Skye for Tiësto’s Halloween edition of Club Life. If all that wasn’t enough for this humble artist, Ken was recently named Breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2011 by Tiësto on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ poll. With his countless achievements in this year alone, Ken Loi is definitely a breakthrough DJ/Producer to follow because his exceptional talent and unconditional passion for music is expected to push him into the future of EDM and make him the next revolutionizing artist.
